Hyperbaric Technician

Position Title: Hyperbaric Technician

Position Summary: The hyperbaric technician operates the chamber and serves in the capacity of an inside observer as needed.

Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the chamber.
2. Responsible for acting as an inside observer as needed.
3. Responsible for ensuring that the inside observer is alert and attentive to the patients.
4. Assist in the start-up and shut down of the facility.
5. Responsible for completing all required forms and tables correctly.
6. Responsible for completing maintenance on time.
7. Responsible for keeping supply part lists stocked.
8. Responsible for patient education.

Minimum Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Experience is preferred, however will train as required through in-house training program.

Skills: Attendance of the Introductory to Hyperbaric Medicine Course is required. Must be able to take the Certified Hyperbaric Technologist exam within one year of employment. Proficiency in use of computer and basic office skills.

Supervision Received: Is directly supervised by the Technical and Assistant Directors.

Supervision Given: Supervises the Inside Observers in the accomplishment of their responsibilities.

Responsibility for Confidentiality: Responsible for maintaining employee, patient and proprietary confidentiality.

Responsibility for Accuracy: Ensures accuracy of all forms and reports.

Pressure Factor: Must be able to work under varying levels of stress.

Contact with Others: Interfaces personally and by telephone with hospital staff, employees and family members.

Working Conditions: Must be able to work in confined and uncomfortable spaces for short and extended periods of time. Hours are dependent upon patient load. Must be able to perform the functions of the on-call technician.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to pass a dive physical. Must be able to lift 75lbs. to waist level. Must be able to assist in lifting patients of varying weights onto and off of a gurney.
