Inside Observer

Position Title: Inside Observer

Position Summary: Attends to the various needs of hyperbaric patients before and during the hyperbaric treatment. Observes patients for signs & symptoms of oxygen toxicity and reports to the chamber operator.

Responsibilities:
1. Prepares the patient seating areas prior to treatment.
2. Sets up patient breathing systems, hoods, masks, etc.
3. Assists in the preparation of the patient's treatment record.
4. Assesses and records patient’s vital signs prior to treatment.
5. Observes patients during treatment, places and removes hoods between either oxygen periods and air breaks.
6. Accurately completes patient treatment records.
7. Attends to the comfort and safety of patients during treatment.

Minimum Educational Requirements:
1. Completion of the hyperbaric observer orientation package.
2. Current Emergency Medical Technician, Dive Medical Technician or equivalent allied health certification.
3. Current BLS certification.

Experience: Must possess patient assessment and care experience.

Skills: CPR, patient assessment and care. Vital signs. Documentation skills.

Supervision Received: Directly supervised by the chamber operator.

Supervision Given: None.

Responsibility for Confidentiality: Responsible for patient, employee and proprietary confidentiality.

Responsibility for Accuracy: Accurate documentation of the patient treatment record.

Pressure Factor: Varying levels of stress.

Contact with Others: Has contact with patients, family members and hospital staff on a regular basis.

Working Conditions: Must be able to withstand short and long term periods in a confined space.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to assist patients to and from wheelchairs and gurneys. Must be able to lift a gurney from floor to waist level with assistance.
